I write about things that strike my fancy. I am opinionated, sometimes quirky, and love genre fiction. Mystery, fantasy, and science fiction are my main genres. But like my characters, I sometimes venture into the unknown. Welcome!
I Love Dragons!
I was in fourth grade when I decided that dragons were real. That they roamed the earth long ago. We were studying dinosaurs in school. Like every other kid that year, I was pouring over the books.
The idea of dragons set my mind on fire. Not literally, but you know what I mean.
What else could a flying dinosaur be other than a dragon. If nothing else they were real in my mind. I mean who wouldn't love a dragon? They were amazing, terrifying, and electrifying.
So the next step had to be, were dragons bad, or good, or commonplace animals in nature? Of course, I knew they weren't real, but I was a dreamer.
When I was somewhere around ten or twelve, my father asked me why I wasn't outside playing (yes, back in the olden days, kids played outside). I bemoaned the fact that all my friends were gone. He said something that changed my life.
"Go write a book," he said.
"I can do that?"
"Of course you can. Go. Make it fun."
I don't remember what I wrote, but dragons would have been fun. So what better way to make them come alive than to write about them. Yes, in the intervening years, I wrote a lot of stories.
When I chose to write my Dragon Speakers duology, I realized that dragons were cliché in fantasy. But I couldn't resist telling the story about dragons and those humans who can speak to them.
I recently finished the fifth book in my new Swords for Hire series. The first two books will be out soon. Yes, there are dragons. The stories are set in my Dragon Speakers World seventy years after Defying the King.
The series is about a group of adventurers led by Kat of Synjar, House of the Black Panther. I'm excited about publishing these books and introducing a new dragon character. I'll write more about this as the publishing date gets closer.
